Doc Brown is the villian in the Back to the Future trilogy?

Right now, AMC is finishing up an evening-long Back to the Future marathon that I've been watching since about halfway through part 2 (it's currently at the end of part 3).

Growing up, I didn't watch the trilogy until the early 90s when I was a kid and by then all 3 parts were on VHS. I particularly enjoyed part 3 the best as it had the whole Western element to it - part 2 always confused me as it jumped around a lot. I also grew up watching the Saturday morning Back to the Future cartoon which takes place after part 3 and focused more on Doc and Clara's sons Jules and Verne

A few months ago, the Back to the Future trilogy was re-released in as a 3-disc 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray/DVD set and in response, Sci-Fi and Pop Culture site io9 posted an article stating and pointing out how Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd's character) is actually the villain in the trilogy. Pretty interesting way of looking at it, if you really think about it.

Below are key points from the article, which you can read in full here.

He's a Terrorist
http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2010/10/doc-sitting-in-car.jpgIt's hard to call a lovable character from our childhood a terrorist, but he was. The DeLorean was electric but he needed a nuclear kick to generate the 1.21 gigawatts...again, 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!...to shoot through time. Since you can't buy plutonium at the corner drugstore he had to steal it from Libyan terrorists. He takes the toxic and deadly substance for his own personal use and makes a bomb for the Libyans out of used pinball machine parts. This proves he knows how to make a bomb and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goal. When they realize he made them a fake bomb they want revenge so they drive their van down to the Twin Pines Mall—later the Lone Pine Mall—at 1 AM looking for some payback. He then promptly gets shot in front of his dog and a teenage boy, who's then forced to jump in a time machine and destroy the space time continuum. This all happened because he was working with the enemy. More like Doc "Taliban Al Qaeda" Brown, right?

Let's face it: He deserved to get shot. That's what happens when you deal with terrorists. They kill you. However, in the process he put a teenager and his dog at risk. Doc was on his way to the future moments before the terrorist van tore into the parking lot. What if he had remembered to pack the plutonium, left for the future, and then the terrorists arrived while Marty was still there and took out their revenge on the happy-go-lucky teen who was drawn into the mad scientist's web of deceit? Or, worse yet, what if the terrorists killed Doc, Marty, and took the time machine for themselves? Plutonium is nothing when compared with a machine that could take over the world. Biff had a shot to run the world and made it sleazy; terrorists would travel back in time and run over George Washington with the De Lorean. If there's no George, there's no Great Satan. But what if the terrorists killed them all and didn't realize it was a time machine, you ask? Well, genius, Marty made a videotape detailing every aspect of the DeLorean. It even shows how to fuel the damn thing. If they can find a guy in a mall parking lot in the middle of the night they can probably operate a VCR.

Even if everything went according to plan, Doc still contaminated a mall parking lot with plutonium, poisoning a helpless community for decades to come. You really think those thin hazmat suits or plutonium chamber in a jury-rigged DeLorean are safe protection against nuclear fall-out? Well, they're not.

He's an Old Man Whose Best Friend is a Teenage Boy
Let's rewind to the very beginning, when Marty first walks into Doc's home. That's weird to begin with: A teen having access to a much-older non-relative's house. Then the phone rings and Marty is comfortable enough to answer the phone in a house that isn't his own.

It's Doc. How did he know Marty would be there at that precise moment? He should have been in school. Does Marty always stop by Doc's house before school? Does he ever spend the night? Doc tells Marty to meet him at the mall at 1:15 AM and Marty's totally cool with that. Later on he wakes Marty at around 12:30 AM to make sure he'll be at the mall in time. He also reminds him to stop by his house and grab some condoms...sorry, the video camera.

He's a loner in 1955 as well, living on the outskirts of town, on the precipice burning through his family fortune to make a machine that could destroy the world.

In Part III they give him a love interest. Director Robert Zemeckis and Producer Bob Gale say in the Blu-ray special features it was time for Doc to stop living with his head and start living with his heart.

Likely story, Bobs.
He Unnecessarily Puts His Dog's Life at Risk
http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2010/10/3-dog-in-delorean.jpg
When he first tests the machine he puts his Dog Einstein in the DeLorean with a stopwatch around his neck. He then sends the poor pooch one minute into the future. What kind of man tests something this dangerous on his unknowing pup? What if it did what Marty thought had happened and it disintegrated him. The car was set up to run on a remote. Why didn't Doc just put a stopwatch in the driver's seat? He would have gotten the same result. The clock would have skipped over the minute regardless. His excited reaction when the DeLorean disappears proves this was the first time he tested it, so there was a chance something catastrophic could have gone wrong. Risking Einstein's life and not testing it himself first proves our next point...
He's a Selfish Coward
Near the end of the original Doc rips up the letter where Marty tell him about getting shot by terrorists.

He says no man should know his own destiny, space-time-continuum, blah, blah, blah... But what's he do at some point between 1955 and 1985? Tapes the letter back together!

When Marty asks about the whole destroying the universe thing Doc responds: "I figured, what the hell."

So it's wrong for Marty to make a few bucks from the future with a sports almanac, or for other people to not know their fate. But when it comes to his own ass it's "what the hell." Really brave, man.
He's a Thief
He burns through all his family money to make the time machine, yet he still has enough to fill a suitcase with different denominations from every possible era.

Plus he upgrades the DeLorean with a Mr. Fusion machine and visits a rejuvenation clinic (took out the wrinkles, did a hair repair, changed his blood, and replaced his spleen and colon) adding 30-40 years to his life. Where's he get all the cash?

Clearly he stole it. Moving on...
He Destroyed the Space Time Continuum
He ruined time. He takes no responsibility over his unholy invention. He proclaims over and over again that it was a mistake and must be destroyed, but he kept on using it. Like a junkie who's always prepared to quit tomorrow.

The Back to the Future logic says time is not set in stone, or self-correcting, and the future can be changed. With each trip they take he destroys time that much more. George McFly, his father, was a weak peeping-tom loser. Biff was a strong Alpha-male, most likely raised in an abusive home (did you hear how much his grandma screamed at him in Part II?). That's how things were supposed to be. That's nature. But it's okay to change things if the results benefit Marty and Doc? Biff of the alternate 1985 world would strongly disagree.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2010/10/6-doc-standing-next-to-car.jpg
Speaking of which, wouldn't George and Lorraine remember Marty? Marty took a nap in his future mom's home, got his dad to hook up with his mom at the dance, and played an integral part in their lives. And then they just completely forget him? His mom was infatuated with him. At no point do they say: "You look a lot like this guy you're named after. I was gonna bang him in a parked car but then Biff came along and almost raped me before your father got up the stones to punch him out. Then you played guitar on stage and we kissed and fell in love." Also, as Marty is leaving them at the dance Lorraine says she likes the name Marty. Well, not enough to use the name on her firstborn son. Instead they name their first son Dave, then they have a daughter named Linda, then they wait to named the youngest Marty. That's cutting it kinda close for a name you really like.

This is just the tip of the destruction caused by Doc. Even when he goes into the future to save Marty's kids he could have done more harm than good. When he's toying around in the old west he's inventing items that shouldn't be in existence yet. We're not saying Doc is responsible for global warming, but it's a definite possibility.
He's a Big Fat Liar Who Plays God
How many times does Doc say once they get back to 1985 they have to "destroy this infernal thing" referring to the time machine? At least twice. He also says he wishes he never invented it. When Marty arrives back in 1985—alone because Doc was too busy thinking with his Lil' Emmett by saving the damsel in distress (a woman who was supposed to die in a ravine)—the DeLorean is pulverized by a train. Whew! It's over. Everything is in place, Doc is stuck in the old west with his true love, and Marty can get back to his life. He goes home and it's the 1985 where his dad wasn't a loser and he has his own truck. He gets his girlfriend and takes her to see the destroyed DeLorean.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2010/10/500x_7-doc-family.jpg
Then WOOOSH!

A big f-ing old west steam train appears with twirly things on top almost killing them.

Who's it in? Hey, it's Doc, his wife, and two young kids, one of which he won't let take a pee.

What happened to the whole notion that traveling through time is wrong? That he should have never built that infernal machine? Since his eldest son Jules doesn't appear to be older than five he must have been building it shortly after Marty went back to the future. Why would he do that? Did he build it so he could show up in the future—almost killing Marty and Jennifer—and tell them in person that the future is up to us? He also said he had to come back for Einstein, but we proved above that's a crock (i.e. using him as a guinea pig to test out the time machine). Couldn't he have just sent a letter like he did at the end of Part II? Or maybe his great-grandson could have approached Marty and told him of all the good his great-grand pappy did to benefit humanity and given instructions on taking care of Einstein. At least we know Marty wouldn't try to vaporize him. But no! The devious Doc decides to start the whole process over again, only this time dragging a wife and two young kids into his madness.

From a Hollywood perspective this ending made it clear that if Zemeckis' career went in the tank he could always return to this franchise. But success smiled on The Zemeck and he never needed to make another BTTF. But somewhere, shooting through time, is Doc, addicted to the power of controlling the universe, wielding his infinite power over three hostages he calls family. Great Scott, indeed.

My Meds Encourage Me to Become a Vampire!

As I've mentioned briefly on here, I've been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes which is a type of diabetes that isn't uncommon for pregnant women to get. We've tried a few weeks controlling it with diet and exercise but I was still having trouble getting my fasting numbers where they should be (I have to prick my finger and monitor my glucose levels 4 times day - once when I first get up and then an hour after each meal) so they put me on medication to help with that.

I just noticed the "warning" label on the pill bottle last night:

Seems like my diabetes medicine is encouraging me to turn vampire! lol...

Christmas!!

Figured I'd make a quick post regarding how our holiday went!

http://www.mashupmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/rudolph.jpgI spent Christmas Eve Eve burning Christmas scented candles and watching several classic Christmas specials on DVD - the original animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and most of Frosty the Snowman. I also wanted to watch Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Little Drummer Boy, but I fell asleep about halfway through Frosty!

Hubby's crazy 2 weeks of overtime ended Friday at 430am, but he still had to get up and go to his day job at 9am, so he was still a bit tired and worn out (last week he averaged 2 hours of sleep a day while the week before he was running on maybe 4 hours a day!).

We went to the annual Christmas Eve Candles and Carols service up at our church and hubby kept falling asleep throughout the service (which is only like 45 minutes long). Afterwards we went over to my parent's house for Christmas dinner and gifts. Dinner was yummy as usual - mom made her traditional Shepherd's Pie dish, which is basically a meat, carrots, mashed potatoes and cheese.

http://productsseenontvonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/shark-vac-then-steam.jpg
After dinner we opened gifts - my big gift was the Shark Vac then Steam vacuum and steam mop which was a combined gift from my parents and my mom's dad. I saw the infomercial a few months back and I *hate* sweeping and Swiffering our floors as they never seem to get all that clean and this new Shark steam/vac looked pretty neat and easy to use and actually seemed to get the floors clean! I figured it'd be a good item to have especially in a few months when Jay is playing around on the floor and starts crawling. Hubby got a few techie gifts he wanted, although he mainly wanted cash or Best Buy gift cards so he could get a new computer monitor since he's 2 flat screen LCD ones both crapped out last summer.

After gifts we had dessert - I was bad and had some cheesecake - and then some of us watched a showing of 24 hours of A Christmas Story while the rest of us sat around and talked. Hubby - poor guy - took a nap.

Christmas morning hubby and I woke up and watched the end of a showing of A Christmas Story in bed together and then got ready to head out to his parent's house, as they live over an hour away. Pulling into their driveway, we immediately got our car stuck. They live out in the country and their driveway is about a 1/4 mile long. Usually his brother's shovel it, but this time they just cleared a path... only our front-wheel drive car veered off it a bit and got stuck. It took a good 10-15 minutes to get the car parked near the house! lol...

We ate dinner out there and it too was good! My father-in-law's been sick with pneumonia the last few weeks - he's on antibiotics for it, but I still had to keep my distance. We did some gifts after dinner, although my mother-in-law is giving them later as she was just too preoccupied with my father-in-law being sick to get out to the stores. She did give me this really nice porcelain Party-Lite figurine of a mother and baby which you put scented oil in. She also asked if I got my Sketcher Shape-Up shoes I wanted and I told her I got a check from my grandparents I was going to put towards them and she told me she'd give me some money to cover the rest of the cost. I figured those shoes would be good to have once the weather is nice out as I plan on taking Jay for walks in his stroller regularly and they'll help me "shape up" and tone and tight stuff as I walk. She also told hubby she'd give him some money to contribute to his quest towards a new monitor.

We got hubby's 3 younger brothers the Call of Duty: Black Ops game for PS3 and while hubby wanted to play it with them afterwards, they had to get ready to head out to a friend's house, so me, hubby and hubby's little sister took turns playing together for a bit before we headed out when his brother's did, as we needed their assistance to help get the car out of the driveway and out to the road!

http://www.networkingaudiovideo.com/pictures/PS3.jpeg
Hubby enjoyed playing Call of Duty on the PS3 a little too much as he decided that instead of getting a new monitor, he'd rather have a PS3. We found a decent bundle online and so he put his giftcards towards that and with the money he still has coming to him, as well as the money he's saved up, we put it on my Best Buy card and will pay it off on our next payment in mid-January. He had a few of the guys from Verizon over the other night and they were taking turns playing on it with our big TV too - he seemed to be having fun!

I took advantage of some post-Christmas sales too. Border's gave me some more free Borders Bucks for being a loyal Rewards member and so I was able to get this desk calendar we wanted for just $2! I also traded-in a few games at Gamestop and took advantage of their post-holiday buy 2 pre-owned, get a 3rd free. Today I went out and finally bought Christmas stockings as all places have Christmas stuff 50% off or more now. I figured we'll definitely be in a house next year and we'll need stockings to hang. I got Jay this cute one with a snowman on it while I got hubby and me matching ones with our first initials on them, all for $5 each. I also got Jay a "My First Christmas" bib for $2.50 that he can wear at our 2 Christmas dinners next year! They also had hats that said "Baby's First Christmas" on them, but considering he'll be around 10 months old next Christmas, they seemed a bit small - more like the size of a newborn's head - so I passed on that.

Sadly, I think I'm finally coming down with hubby's cold. Considering he was running on almost no sleep the last 2 weeks, him getting sick was almost inevitable - I knew it was most likely going to happen! I saw him Wednesday night at dinner and commented that he didn't look or sound too good - he told me he was getting sick. I tried to avoid getting it, but today I have a little bit of a sore throat and my nose is being all icky - he said that's what he had at first too. I know I can take Robitussin though so I'm planning on doing that, as I can't chug orange juice right now because it has too many carbs/sugars in it.

How was your holiday?

32 Week Dr.'s Appointment

This morning we had the first of our 32 week doctor visits, as they're now seeing me every Monday as well as having me come in for a follow-up at the end of the week due to the gestational diabetes so they can check how I'm doing with it.

Last Thursday (which I forgot to post about due to the holiday) they put me on medication - 2.5mg of glyburide (1 pill) to be taken with dinner - as while my dinner levels were looking good and under the cutoff since making the changes the dietitian/nutritionist recommended last Monday, my fasting numbers were still a little high.

Well... the pill seemed to get my fasting levels down the 1st day (Friday) but Saturday through Monday it was back to what it's been at (high 90s or 100 when the cutoff is 90). Today the doctor bumped me up to 5mg of the glyburide (2 pills) to see if that does it.

Christmas also messed me up a little, as they say it's difficult to count carbs when you yourself home-make food, let alone when someone else does it and we had 2 big Christmas dinners within 24 hours. I ate smaller portions but I knew that most likely it was going to be off and it was... although not too bad. The doctor basically told me to get back on track and keep monitoring my meals like I was now that Christmas is over.

Today they also started me with the weekly "stress test." What that is, is where they hook you up with the contraction belt like the one the hospital had me wear when we went after the car accident in October, and they have a separate one they put on you that monitors baby's heartbeat. You sit back in a comfy chair for about 20 minutes while they monitor baby's heartbeat and any contractions you might be having and it all shows up on the printout. Also, you get this button clicker too that you press everytime you feel baby move.

Yeah... Jay didn't seem to like this too much! He was quiet prior, however they had the volume turned up so they could hear for the heartbeat just outside the room at the nurse's station in case anything did happen (the hospital one was quiet) and I think that peaked his interest! After a few minutes he started moving around a little bit... and then he found where the hard round plastic contraction monitor was in the center of my belly and started kicking and punching it - he got in a few good ones! Hubby came with today and started laughing at how the lines on the printout machine were spazing when Jay was beating on the plastic monitor! He gave up after a few minutes but then soon found the similar monitor that was monitoring his heartbeat and he started beating on that one! lol... eventually he stopped and gave up, realizing that like the other one it wasn't going anywhere, but it was pretty funny!

He seems to have issues with things that press on my belly or when I'm curled up in a position that "cramps" his space and he's not shy about letting me know he doesn't like nor is he afraid to get aggressive and start beating until he gets his space back! lol...

We had a brief ultrasound today - she mainly checked the placenta and his growth to see how much room and amniotic fluid he has as well as if the placenta was looking healthy still and not old and icky. The doctor said 10-20 (forgot the units she used) is where we want to be and we were at 14.5 so she said that's good and he still has room without us having to worry. His heartbeat was 149bpm which is what it's been at the last few check-ups, so no change there and that's good. She also said he's head down, which is the position we want him to be, so that's good too!

Guess we'll see how my follow-up goes on Thursday!

Our Christmas Holiday 2010

Christmas came and went already this year - I can't believe there's only 1 more week left in this year! How crazy is that!?

It almost scares me as that means Jay will be here in the flesh in less than 2 months and iono... as excited as we are to meet him, I am a bit nervous/scared and just not quite ready for him to come out yet!

Anyways, I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday - I know we did!

I spent Thursday evening (Christmas Eve Eve) watching some of the classic Christmas specials - I made it through the animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and most of Frosty the Snowman before passing out on the couch! I had planned on also watching The Little Drummer Boy and Santa Claus is Coming to Town but just couldn't stay awake!

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs907.snc4/72062_851682384819_30800316_44102053_5333795_n.jpg
Tiger and her belated birthday/Christmas present
We also gave Tiger her belated birthday/Christmas present too which is this combination carpet scratching post with a feather "birdie" that snaps onto it. OMG she LOVED it! Once she realized it was hers, she went nuts playing with it for a good 10-15 minutes before wearing herself out and taking a break! It was amusing and entertaining watching her! I need to go out and buy some of the snap-on feather "birdies" as she already lost the one that came with it, lol...

Hubby got off work from UPS at 430am Friday, so he got a few more hours of sleep than he had been - Thursday morning, at 730am while filling out his timecards, he completely passed out at the computer and all his full-time supervisors caught him in the act and woke him up with their laughing. Photos were taken too - it was pretty amusing! Poor guy though, he's fighting off a cold as last week he only got about 4 hours of sleep a day and then this week he was getting 2 hours of sleep or less a day! I knew he was going to get sick and he did... fortunately I've been lucky enough not to catch it... yet!

Christmas Eve they didn't need me to come into work so I relaxed in the afternoon and then hubby and I met up with my family at church for the annual Candles and Carols Christmas Eve service at our church. It only lasts about 45 minutes and goes by pretty quick, although poor hubby - he kept dozing off every few minutes! I kept having to poke him when it came time to light our candles at the end of the service, telling him he didn't want to be the one to set fire to anything or burn down the church because he couldn't stay awake for Silent Night! lol...

After that we went back to my parents house and snacked on Swedish meatballs and veggies while mom finished dinner - we always have Shepherd's Pie which is basically a meat, potato, cheese and veggie casserole and she also made her chicken tetrazine and some other stuff. After dinner we had time to kill before dessert (which was assorted cheesecake - yum!) so we opened presents.

I got the Shark Vac-then-Steam that I wanted - it was a combined gift between my parents and my mom's dad. We also got some DVDs (Beauty and the Beast, Inception, Fantasia/Fantasia2000, the Star Wars original trilogy set), and hubby got his A-Gloves and a leather folio/easel case for his Samsung Galaxy tablet (which my aunt kept calling an iPad and we kept having to set her straight that no, it's an Android tablet, not an Apple one, lol... hubby's not big on Apple tablets or phones since he works with Droids).

I can finally tell what we got everyone, as I've been dying to share! We got my dad the brand new Tom Clancy book which is the next one in the Jack Ryan series as well as a bookmark; we got my sis a Wicked the Musical 2011 planner/organizer/datebook as well as a matching bookmark; we got my mom the 70th anniversary 2-disc Gone With the Wind DVD as I remember he mentioning how she needed to get that one eventually as it's one of her favorites yet she didn't own a copy of it; we got my 11 year old cousin the Avatar game for Nintendo DS as well as a long-sleeved graphic tee from The Children's Place; we gave my uncle the Airplane! DVD; and my aunt we gave her this glass angel tealight holder I bought from Partylite with some candles to go with it. I didn't know my sister's quasi-boyfriend was joining us and taking part in gifts so we didn't know to get him anything - oops! (and I say "quasi-boyfriend" as they're not officially dating until she's 18 this spring, but he's pretty much been accepted into the family and they're ALWAYS together it seems).

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQkzy0tzUMmbRacF2Q56TUF-PAhjXzU2aSzmsGWN28RYDcTs_xIAfter that we had dessert and some of us sat around and chatted while the others went in the family room and watched the 2nd showing of 24 Hours of A Christmas Story. Hubby fell asleep during the movie and it was around midnight when I got him awake enough for us to head home.

Christmas morning we woke up by 10am and watched the last half of A Christmas Story together in bed. My mom called and said they found a few more presents for us that my sis had forgot to wrap so once we got dressed we swung by their house again - we also got Iron Man 2 on DVD and I got the book "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and a Punky Brewster 8-episode DVD that mom said dad had to get for me! hehe

We drove the hour and 15 minutes out to my inlaw's house, arriving there just after 1pm and promptly got stuck in their driveway. Here's the thing - my inlaw's driveway is about a 1/4 mile long and a pain to shovel when it snows a lot and if it's not done well, it's easy to get stuck in! Also, hubby's car is front-wheel drive and one of the tires needs replaced as the tread sucks on it right now. 2 of my brother-in-laws were home, but instead of shoveling the majority of the driveway, they just shoveled a path, which of course hubby's car went off, lol... one of them had to come out and help us push it the rest of the way to the parking area! lol...

We sat around and hung out with everyone while my mother-in-law finished making dinner, although my father-in-law has walking pneumonia so I had to keep my distance as I really can't afford to catch that, even if he is on antibiotics! Hubby's other younger brother and his girlfriend showed up just before dinner and we ate it all up - it was yummy!

http://www.partylite.biz/imaging/resize?fileName=/productcatalog/production/en_US/product/P95210-WS11-2.jpg&width=250
Present from my mother-in-law
After dinner we exchanged what gifts we had, as my mother-in-law was a bit preoccupied the last 2 weeks with my father-in-law being sick and didn't have a chance to go into town and get gifts for everyone yet. One of hubby's brothers got him a fleece jacket that he can wear at work and gave me a pair of A-Gloves. My mother-in-law did have a gift for me - she got me this really neat porcelain mother and child figurine from Partylite which you drop in scent oil and it makes the room smell nice! She asked if I got my Sketcher Shape-Up shoes from anyone yet - I told her I got a check from my grandparents which I was going to put towards them and she said she'd give me the rest of the money to get them, so I'll be getting those soon too, as I can't wait to wear them this spring once the weather is nice when I take Jay for walks in his stroller!

Hubby's 12 year old sister is really into Nancy Drew right now so we got her the next book in the series (#15) with a bookmark hubby picked out for her as well as a Nancy Drew PC game that she didn't have yet. We got his mom a glass cross tealight holder from Partylite with some candles for it and we got his dad the The Blue and the Gray miniseries DVD set. We combined his brother's gift as we got them Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PS3. For hubby's older brother's family we gave our 3 year old nephew a Thomas the Train memory matching game, our newborn infant nephew some cute onesies with monkey's on them, and for the family we got them the Toy Story 3 DVD and some popcorn packets. They sent us cute onesies for Jay as well as a pack of Dallas Cowboys booties that'll match the onesies we got him in Dallas perfectly! My aunt also got us this rubber bath duckie for Jay that tells you if the temperature is too hot.

After that, hubby wanted to play some CoD: Black Ops with his brothers, but they had to pack some stuff up to take to a friends so him, me and his sister played it for a bit. I'm pretty horrible at shooters (in most I tend to pick a spot and camp it and shoot as people run past, or in Halo I get a vehicle and mow people over with it!), but hubby and I did decent at the Nazi Zombie level, as we formed a strategy where I would stay back and shoot from a distance while he would stay up front and do all the tasks you do in the level. I got bored and joined the girls for some pumpkin pie while hubby started playing the story-mode.

We left around 830, as my brother-in-laws were heading out to their friend's house and we had to leave at the same time otherwise we'd never be able to get the car out of the driveway! It took all 3 of them to push us up and out to the road and took nearly 10 minutes!

I also found out that my bestest college buddy (my longterm college roomie) got engaged!!! They're not having the wedding til 2012, but she already asked me to be a bridesmaid and I'm sooo excited! While I was a Jr. Bridesmaid in my aunt's wedding 13-14 years ago when I was in Jr. High, I've been dying to get asked to be a bridesmaid in one of my friend's weddings for years, so I'm thrilled I finally get to be an actual bridesmaid for someone!

http://www.networkingaudiovideo.com/pictures/PS3.jpegFor Christmas, hubby had mainly asked for Best Buy giftcards as he was originally wanting to put them towards a new computer monitor since both his flatscreen LCD ones crapped out within a few months of each other and we've been using my old boxy 8-year old Dell one. However, he had recently been debating about putting the giftcards/money he got for Christmas towards a PS3 or XBox (eventually deciding on a PS3 as it has a Blue-Ray player). After playing CoD: Black Ops last night, he decided he wanted the PS3 more. He got several giftcards for Christmas, and we split the check my grandparents send us every year, plus he had some money saved up and his mom said she'd give him some for the "fund" as his Christmas present, so last night we went online to Best Buy's website to see what kind of deals they had on them. We're getting the 160gb PS3 bundle with LittleBigPlanet and an extra controller and it comes with a $50 giftcard too. Since hubby can't wait, we're putting it on the Best Buy card that I have and will just pay it off when we make January's payment on it. He also added CoD: Black Ops to it as well.

So today I'm picking up our PS3, stopping by Target to see about getting another DVD rack (as we realized last night while putting our new DVDs away that we have no more space!), stopping by Borders and picking up the 2011 WoW trivia desktop calendar since it's 50% off now and I have $5 in Borders Bucks that expire this week, and then stopping by Gamestop to trade-in a few games and maybe get a few newer ones (I'm thinking Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3 and Mario Party 8 for Wii). Hubby invited a co-worker to come over and play video games tonight too so I need to clean up around here a little (he originally was going over to his place after work, but I pointed out that his co-worker has seen him more in the last 2 weeks than I have and I'd like to spend some time with him now that he's not working almost 100hrs a week, lol...)

How have your holidays been?

Merry Christmas!

Christmas for us starts in less than an hour as we meet up with my family at church for the annual Candles and Carols Christmas Eve service and then this year we'll be going over to my parents house for Christmas dinner and presents with that side of our family. Afterwards we'll come home and catch at least one airing of 24 Hours of "A Christmas Story" on TBS before bed and then head out in the late morning to visit with my in-laws for presents and Christmas dinner there with hubby's side of the family. Unfortunately we won't be spending the night out there this year as hubby has to get up in the morning to open his Verizon store for the day after Christmas shopping madness.

Just wanted to leave you all with a digital version of our Christmas card this year!

Christmas Favorites and Not So Favorites

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_utpn85k5ndo/S38v5P_J4bI/AAAAAAAAAJw/mw1r8Sd4oxE/s1600/flashbacklogo.jpg
Since Christmas is tomorrow and today is Christmas Eve, I figured I would post this fun survey/meme that Caroline from So Caroline Says posted on her blog last week, as it's all about your Christmas favorites/dislikes.

Favorite Christmas Song:
"O Holy Night" by pretty much anyone or "Gloria" by Michael W. Smith. My church used to host a huge Christmas production with 5-7 shows in one weekend (it was a big city-wide affair) and they would ALWAYS perform this one near the end of the production. They stopped for several years due to cutbacks and other stuff and have recently started a Christmas production again (being a production of "A Christmas Carol" for the past 2 years now) and sadly don't include this one anyone... I really miss it as I always found it moving and inspirational!

Least Favorite Christmas Song:
That "Wonderful Christmastime" song. I think it's by Paul McCartney, you know, the one with the annoying 80's synthesizer and electronics in it and it's all "simp-ly, haaaaaaaving a wonderful Christmastime!" That song makes me nearly go ape as I CAN'T STAND the synthesizer and electronic noises in it, lol...

Favorite Christmas Movie:
A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the classic animated one, not the horrible live-action Jim Carrey one), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Elf

Least Favorite Christmas Movie:
The Grinch (the horrible live-action one), a lot of the older "classic" movies from back in the day - no offense, but I've never really been a fan of most "old" movies.

Favorite Part Of Christmas Eve/Day:
Christmas Eve - getting together with my family and attending the Candles and Carols service up at church and then dinner and presents with my family.
Christmas Day - seeing how many times of 24hrs of A Christmas Story we can watch, getting together with my inlaws for presents and Christmas dinner.

Least Favorite Part of Christmas Day/Eve:
Waiting around for the food on Christmas Eve lol... and the drive out to my inlaws on Christmas day and that their house always seems cold to me.

Favorite Christmas Tradition:
The decorating and just the whole regular schedule/plan we have every year. And the shopping and wrapping of presents too!

Least Favorite Christmas Tradition:
Setting up the tree when it comes to fluffing it out and putting the lights and garland on - putting the ornaments on though is fun!

Wishes for this Christmas:
Decent weather (ie: not too cold with good drive-able conditions), that everyone likes what we've gotten them.

Hitting 85 and other WoW achievements this week!

Okay, okay, okay.http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_utpn85k5ndo/S6kDD58AjvI/AAAAAAAAAKg/al0aeux5keA/s1600/warcraftwednesdays-logo.gif

So I know Wednesday was yesterday and today is Thursday... however I spent most of the day yesterday playing WoW so I could share stuff with you for this week's post.

Well, I did it - I *finally* hit level 85 on my Nelf Boomkin!

I took most of last week off just because I was so tired for a number of reason (most all pregnancy related, as I'm now in my 3rd trimester and last week I was adjusting to a new a low-carb diet they put me on for the gestational diabetes I have and that was making me extra sleepy too!). I returned to WoW this week and since I was already 84, I decided I wanted to hit 85 before Christmas and since Christmas for us starts on the evening of Christmas Eve, the meant I only had a few days to accomplish to this.

I didn't have much to do Tuesday evening as well as most of Wednesday so I spent lots of time in game!

First off, I ended up finishing Vashj'ir as I wanted to "discover" the Throne of Tides and get the quests for the instance... however I was sad to learn that at 84, you can't queue for it in the dungeon finder as it's a level 80-82 dungeon! I was a bit sad...

After Vashj'ir I went onto Uldum where I met up with Harrison Jones and friends again.

I also got in a group with some guildies to do the Crucible of Carnage in Twilight Highlands, which is the next step in the "Ring of Blood" arena achievement quests. At 84, I got a ton of XP and a good bit of money as well as an awesome blue "very manly" staff!

I also did a few instances in Uldum - Halls of Origination and The Vortex Pinnacle. Halls of Origination reminded me of Halls of Stone, especially with the part with the dwarf that escorts you around. Vortex Pinnacle was interesting as you have to jump in cyclones to get around in the instance as it takes place in the sky.

One of the first things I did after I hit 85 was go back to Stormwind, where I got distracted by the Auction House, skill trainers and a new chain of quests which had me escorting teenage Prince Anduin around Stormwind as we worked on a mystery together. I also found it interesting that he seems to be a Priest, as he can throw up shields for protection.

Also, *someone* who worked on this expansion got a bit too happy when it came to creating and including cutscenes. There were a few in Hyjal and Deepholm and some in Vashj'ir, but they all worked with the basic storyline. In Uldum though... omg it's like do a quest, watch a cutscene, do another quest, watch another cutscene... gets a bit old after a bit and each cutscene is overly dramatic trying too hard to be epic. It seems like they got a lot feedback for the awesome Wrathgate questline/cutscene in Wrath and decided to run with the idea for this expansion!

My guild officially got the Realm First for the guild achievement "Working as a Team."

Us and another guild got the regular achievement days ago, however neither got the official realm first - turns out, you can't "double up" on professions, meaning you can't have 1 person max out multiple professions and get credit for it. 1 profession counts for 1 toon and so you need 15 people to meet the requirements to get the realm first version of the achievement. Kinda dumb, but whatever - we did it, much to the dismay of the other more prominent raiding guild on our server we were racing against for it.

So now I'm working on my gear so I can run some heroics - I can't wait to run Heroic Deadmines, but you need an average item gear level of 329 to enter the heroics (again, dumb!) and I'm currently at 316. I bought a few blues off the auction to help, but yeah... looks like I need to run some more instances.

I also need to look up a few stats to see what my haste, crit and hit rating should be now as a Boomkin and then add in mastery rating once I get those to an acceptable level. I also need to figure out where to put my last 2 talent points as I have everything in the Balance tree that I want, as well as everything I can get in the Resto tree - I have 2 extra points that I have no clue where to put them. I don't care for Typhoon (unless of course they've fixed the knockback issue that annoyed people with it in Wrath) or having 3 Treants follow me around.

I'm working on upping my Enchanting too as apparently you can't DE (disenchant) certain items unless you have 475 and later 500 enchanting skill - I was able to get it up to 485 last night, but I'm getting low on mats and need to stock up by DEing more quest rewards.

Here's my Boomkin in her current gear, with her enchanted "Very Manly" staff:

She's wearing a mix of cloth and leather gear - the joys of being a caster!

Our Christmas Decorations

Christmas is this week and I thought I'd share some photos of our decorations!

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_utpn85k5ndo/TRAYEes1AcI/AAAAAAAAAqw/DWncngymCeQ/s512/IMG_20101220_205323.jpg
Our Christmas Tree with presents for family underneath
I bought this at Walmart while in college for $30 and it's held up quite well! Sitting next to the tree on the chair are garland and lights I wanted to put up on our window valance but that requires hubby's help and we just never got around to it this year - oh well!

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_utpn85k5ndo/TRAYOXrZH4I/AAAAAAAAAq8/QAFci3ENoPM/s640/IMG_20101130_012301.jpg
The ornaments on the tree
I have the entire Puppy Love collection (which released #20 this year!) and there's some older ones here as well as newer ones, including a Dallas Cowboys ornament and an "Our First Christmas" Precious Moments ornament we were given our first married Christmas together.

Snowmen figurines and Christmas tree votive holder
I actually saved the snowmen from the laundry room, as people put things they don't want anymore in there for the taking. The Christmas tree votive holder is from my mom. I currently don't have a votive in it, but it makes for a nice decoration!

Candy and Candle Display
I change out the candy in the bowl with peppermint pieces each year and put candy canes in one of my candle holders (it's a 3 piece tier set that can be set up different ways!). The candles in the display are called "Christmas Eve" and we got them at Yankee Candle.

Corner Table Display
For Christmas I added my Nativity snowglobe and a smaller Nativity set I've had since I was a kid. There's also Christmas Tigger - I ordered a matching Pooh and Eeyore but Pooh is on backorder and Eeyore hasn't arrived yet =(

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_utpn85k5ndo/TRAX5NW17NI/AAAAAAAAAqk/mvAW8SY964U/s640/IMG_20101220_205409.jpg
Other Table Display
For Christmas I added the fake Poinsettia (which is in part of my 3 tier candle set), the Angel bell I rescued from the laundry room with the snowmen, and a HollyLites PartyLite candle warmer I got on sale this year with Iced Snowberries scent! I would like to get Christmas-y drink coasters as our blue Vegas ones don't really match but haven't had much luck finding any yet =(

Wall o' Christmas photo cards!
I just put this together last night as we have a decent amount of them this year! We have ones from friends and family from this year to years past, as well as our own on the fridge.

Your mushy-gushy statuses make me want to pukey-wookey

Overly mushy people annoy me.

Sorry if you're one of them, but really. I get you love your boyfriend/girlfriend/fiance/spouse, but do you really need to constantly gush it out publicly online for all to see? It makes the rest of us want to puke.

http://s3prod.weheartit.netdna-cdn.com/images/5679111/tumblr_ldrsx8vcZe1qcshf5o1_400_large.jpg?1292922101
My sister and hubby's youngest brother were like this when they dated awhile back - half their statuses were "I love you, you make me so happy, you're my everything..." and overly mushy stuff like that. They were in high school though and it was obviously puppy love... okay I can relate, but back then we didn't have social networking sites to post it for all to see on a daily basis.

Hubby had a relative who was like this with their significant other too. Granted, their relationship was long distance, but their statuses to each other (why can't you just post it on each other's wall??), similar to the ones my sis and bro-in-law would post, still made us all want to puke at how over the top mushy gushy they were. They got married though and were no longer long distance and quit posting all that mushy stuff 24/7.

You know it's bad when your mom even says the statuses are making her nauseous!

Now hubby and I have another mutual friend who, for some reason we can't figure out, posts at the end of EVERY status "I love you {insert girlfriend's name here}". The entire status can be nothing related or pertaining to his girlfriend, yet he throws that in at the end of EVERY status. Makes us all want to puke.

I have nothing wrong with people being romantic and lovey-dovey, but is there really a reason to post all that gushy stuff to your loved one in your Facebook status CONSTANTLY??? Like I said above, why can't you just post it on their wall? I know people who have done that (one that comes to mind was in Iraq and would post "I love you's" on his wife's wall every chance he got to go online) and it makes sense - you're directly telling that person your feelings for them. And I get wanting to tell the world you love a certain person, but WHY the need to broadcast in EVERY status or almost every status? It gets really annoying and it's a sure-fire way to get people to "hide" your statuses (which means they don't see what you post ever) or just unfriend you.

And no, it's not that I'm jealous - sure I wouldn't mind an occasional cutesy message from hubby, but if he started posting all mushy gushy stuff all the time I would start to wonder who he is and what they did to the real hubby! lol...

Survey thingy

I haven't done one of these in forever (not since the Livejournal days I believe, lol...) but I'm bored and this seemed like an okay one so I figured why not?

Read my answers to this random survey a cousin of mine posted on Facebook after the jump =)

31 Week Survey

I've seen this weekly pregnancy meme done on several other pregnancy blogs lately and thought I'd take part too as a fun way to track my weekly progress in these last few weeks =)

How far along?: 31 weeks, 1 day
How big is baby?: Fundal height measured 31cm today, they said last week he weighed 3lbs, 14oz
Weight gain?: I actually lost weight thanks to gestational diabetes diet - down to 188!
Stretch marks?: Got some on my lower belly as well as by my love-handles and the side of my boobs. Started using Palmer's lotion for stretch marks though so we'll see how that works!
Maternity clothes?: I only wear maternity pants at this point (cept for my PJ bottoms at home), and I mostly wear maternity tops when I'm out
Sleep?: Ugh... I wake up to pee halfway through the night and some nights I have trouble staying comfortable
Best moment this week?: Hm... not sure - I've been pretty tired this past week.
Food cravings?: Things with carbs - this diet is a bit restrictive in that aspect and I can only have smaller portions of what I normally would eat =/
Gender?: Jay's all boy - there's no doubt about it!
Movement?: Plenty! Some days more than others but he's still a little wiggle bug in there!
Belly button?: It's pretty much flat at this point
What I miss?: Eating how I was =/
Labor signs?: Had a few Braxton Hicks this past week, but nothing major
What I'm looking forward to?: Christmas this weekend!!
Milestone?:  Finally had some Braxton Hicks - was starting to wonder when they were going to show up!

31 week appointment and glucose diet follow-up

So I had my 1 week follow-up appointment with the dietitian/nutritionist this morning followed by my regularly weekly check-up at my OB/GYN clinic this afternoon.

My meeting with the dietitian/nutritionist went okay... she looked over my numbers and commented that yes, some of my post-dinner levels have been a bit high lately and said my fasting numbers were a bit on the high side too. She thinks part of it might be that I'm waiting too long between lunch and dinner and dinner and breakfast and not snacking enough. She counted up my carbs too and said without the snacks I'm not getting enough as I should be closer to 175 per day. So I guess I need to make sure I'm having a bedtime snack and a maybe one between lunch and dinner for when we're eating dinner late - she thinks that might help. She said it's up to my clinic whether or not they want to put me on medication to help with my post-dinner levels. Other than that, she said I'm doing good with keeping track of my carbs. I haven't made a follow-up appointment with her yet as she said it's up to my clinic and what they want me to do for now but she recommended I keep counting and monitoring levels for at least another week and see how it goes with the changes.

At my regular appointment, the scale shows I lost weight. Last time I weighed in at 194, although I did have my snow boots on too as it was kinda icky out and I didn't want to take several minutes in the hallway putting them back on. This time I weighed in at 188.8 without my shoes on. They said it is possible that the shoes and the low-carb diabetes diet did it. They said if I keep it up a bit post-delivery in addition to breastfeeding I'll be able to shed off my pregnancy weight easily!

I met with one of the doctors I've only met with once prior today. I wasn't aware I needed to bring my glucose reading records with me but fortunately I had my meter on me. She flipped through it and I filled her in on what the dietitian/nutritionist said this morning - she said she was going to send my stuff over to the clinic today but apparently this doc hadn't seen it yet...? She said they were going to have me come in again on Thursday to see how the diet was doing after making the changes we had discussed today to see if that made any difference or not before they decide to put me on a prescription and told me to bring my sheets I've been recording my levels on in with me.

She said Jay's heartbeat sounded good - just under 150 - and measuring fundal height with the tape measure she said he was about 31cm... not sure how accurate that is though as he was measuring 32cm 3 weeks ago...?

I guess we'll see how things go!

Formula feeding vs Breast feeding

Just thought I'd make my statement on this topic.

We are planning on breast feeding and eventually pumping and bottle-feeding for when momma won't be around to feed him (like if mommy's out and daddy or grandma is watching him) or we're out in public.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiepXFrrb2uDqIYo3FXLDP5QqBc3WaP47E8IsvfOg4f12y9Vll-02tPKTI5C1rNb5mNR-A18pRVmG4RZgk4VA0Q7iHbjKqUupk4RFLsKVXF9cLfk0vfET3l0VmY_B15eC1lCpAeOPWppybO/s1600/bottlevsbreast.jpg
Now I have nothing wrong or against those that don't breastfeed - I was formula fed, as was my sister and my cousin. To be honest, I'm not all that familiar with non-formula feeding and originally when I always thought of having kids the idea of breast feeding never crossed my mind as it wasn't something we did in my family.

Hubby on the other hand... him and all his siblings were breastfed so to him, it was kind of expected.

I was hesitant at first to the idea but then I know my friend who has 2 kids now breastfed both of them (sometimes while I was over visiting as she used a nursing cover) and it didn't seem all that weird like I originally thought.

To be honest, we are tight on money. And out of curiosity, hubby and I looked at the price of formula while in Walmart one night and wow! You can easily spend $15 a week or more on formula alone, pending how much your kid eats!

Thinking about it, I decided I'd be willing to give it a try and I'm thinking we'd do it for the first 6 months until he can start eating baby food and drinking other liquids like juice and water as it'll save us money on feeding him.

And that's the sole reason we're doing it.

They say there's all kinds of benefits to breast feeding over formula feeding, and I'm sure there are as far as nutrients and I hear there's less doctors visits in the first year and such too, although I hate when people say it makes your baby smarter or whatever - as I said, I was formula fed and I turned out just fine - I was on the honor roll all throughout high school! Honestly, we're just trying it because of the cost.

I think breastfeeding in public is a bit weird and I don't plan on doing that as I'm not really comfortable with the idea - like I said, I'm planning on pumping some so that when we are out in public and he gets hungry we can just give him a bottle of breastmilk and save the actual nursing for at home or when we're with family or close friends and use the nursing cover then.

Braxton Hicks and other thoughts

So I think I'm finally experiencing Braxton Hicks. And seems Walmart is the place for me to get them as both days I've noticed them this week, they've started while I was in Walmart!

The first one I noticed was on Wednesday while I was shopping for lower carb food for me to eat for my diet. I had been walking around for about 45 minutes when I felt this tightening on my left side and it seemed pretty hard. At first I wasn't sure if it was Braxton Hicks or if it was just Jay stretching out and trying to make more room for himself like he often does. It lasted for a brief moment although it came and went several times while I was walking around in the store and I had to stop pushing my shopping cart and just kinda put a hand to my side and wince in slight pain for a moment til it passed.

Then yesterday (Friday) I was out there again picking up a few things I had forgotten on Wednesday and same thing - after walking around the store for a bit, I felt the tightening on the left side again and it felt hard when I put a hand to it. I stopped for a moment, winced and breathed and waited for it to pass. It came and went a few times as the night went on I noticed, making me a little irritable when hubby was deciding to be a little lazy. He was like "what's wrong with you?" and I told him and he was all "oh..."

I think I figured what we're going to do as far as Jay's furniture and stuff, since we most likely won't be moving til March at this point. While it was already decided that I would move my clothes around in our walk-in closet to make room for the dresser/changing table and we'd go through and clear out room on the floor for more space in there, this morning I came up with an idea for the Pack n Play we're hoping to get. In our bedroom we have this one wall that has a smaller couch on it. I'm thinking we see if we can store the couch at my parent's house in their basement til we move and we'll have room to put the Pack n Play up along that wall and then on our registry we also have a little 2 shelf table thing that we can set up next to it and put some of his stuff on top and then on the shelves below we can put his books and these baskets I'd like to get to put his toys away in. So it'll be like his own little area in the bedroom for now.

We're hoping to get the co-sleeper we registered for too, as we figure at nighttime we'll use that so if he wakes up in the middle of the night for feedings I can just roll over and scoop him up, but the Pack n Play we'll use for naptime so I can shut the door to the bedroom to keep the cat out and he can sleep peacefully without us having to worry about him being unattended in the co-sleeper.

While we registered for a lot of things on our registry, the things I'm really hoping we get are the Pack n Play, the co-sleeper, the 3-in-1 travel set (with stroller, carrier and carseat), a bouncy seat, a breast pump, the bathtub set, the fishbowl crib toy, and the basic necessities (ie: diapers, washing stuff, grooming kit, basic clothes, etc). Most of the other stuff like a swing and walker and exersaucer and all that stuff is just extra - we don't necessarily need it, but it would be nice to have, ya know?

Glucose Diet: Week 1

So I'm *almost* done with my first week on this low-carb diet they put me on for my glucose monitoring and I must say - I hate it.

Here's what they have me doing:

I wake up around 10/11am and take prick my finger with the glucose thingy and have the monitor give me my fasting number. I write that down, and then I make myself something to eat for breakfast.

For breakfast I can have up to 30g of carbs, although I've been cheating slightly most mornings as the dietitian/nutritionist told me my 2 slice of wheat bread with peanut butter was fine and that puts me up to 35g. I eat and then wait an hour and prick my finger again to get my 1hr post-breakfast glucose level number and I write that down.

Then I wait around for lunch which is sometime in the afternoon - she wrote it down for 2pm but I've gone as late as 4pm. I can also have a mid-morning snack between breakfast and lunch that is supposed to be around 15g of carbs. Usually it's a granola bar.

For lunch I can eat 45-60g of carbs. Lunch isn't too much of a problem - I usually have a sandwich of some sort with some veggies and a fruit cup or if I'm out I drive thru McDonald's and get 2 grilled chicken ranch snackwraps. Then again, after lunch I wait an hour, prick my finger and get my glucose level number.

I can also have a 15-30g of carbs snack between lunch and dinner as we figured I eat dinner later (around 8/9pm). At the grocery store I found I found these yummy fruit yogurt parfaits with granola you mix in that are about 23g so I've been using that as my snack now.

For dinner, like lunch, I can have 45-60g of carbs. Here's the problem though, I'm trying to eat more protein with dinner but protein has like no carbs in it so I feel like I'm barely meeting the 45g minimum sometimes so I feel like I have to scrounge up something else to eat. Also, I'm not used to eating breakfast every morning so by the time I get to dinner I'm not usually *that* hungry either. Another problem I'm noticing is that for the last 3 times now, I prick my finger to get my glucose levels an hour after dinner and they've been *just over* my cut off of 140, which really kind of annoys me.

I can also have a post-dinner, late night snack too of 15-30g although I only do maybe 50% of the time as lately I've just been so tired after dinner that I tend to just crash and pass out and go to bed early.

That's the thing I hate - I feel like crap on this diet. I feel okay for a bit after I eat but then I start to feel all tired and weak once the effect wears off as I'm eating less carbs which means less energy for me. It really kind of sucks. Tuesday, when I wasn't eating, pricking my finger or using the bathroom I spent most of the day asleep in bed I had no energy... and the rest of the week I've felt pretty sluggish, tired and weak too. My friend that does low-carb dieting often says it's probably just my body isn't use to it yet and it's in transition to it which is why I'm so tired from it.

Still, I hate it.

If Jay wants to come out in late January, I am a-okay with that! The sooner he's out the sooner I can get off this diet. Sure, it's got me eating a little better and there's stuff I'm eating now that I'll probably continue to eat after, but I feel like I need more carbs than what I have to function properly. That and the stupid test strips, even after insurance, are kinda expensive, so the sooner he comes out the sooner I can stop monitoring and using the strips which saves us money.

Memorable Christmas Gifts of the Past

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_utpn85k5ndo/S38v5P_J4bI/AAAAAAAAAJw/mw1r8Sd4oxE/s1600/flashbacklogo.jpg
Since Christmas is right around the corner, this week's Flashback Friday post is devoted to memorable Christmas toys/gifts.

One of the first Christmases I can remember I got quite a bit of toys, including a red tricycle that I road around the house that first morning as well as my brown Fischer Price cassette recorder.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2FwYPzNeQw80zV7EA_HGq6wp9czv0RY7_hx2g5YHP4YieYSnIaOmRXj3Mv91gZMgTCGVecRqdfw05fkR7XSVVpwztTP9Q2ebN5s8WkJKtgQYK4lFyaXFTds3zg3JtWSM6qfIZA1njzdRw/s1600/nes-console.jpgAnother memorable gift was the year we got a Nintendo game system. I've mentioned it before in various posts on here - my childhood best friend and her older brothers had a Nintendo at their house that we would play often and since I had an interest in video games, when an older cousin got a Nintendo he sent us his older Atari system, but it just wasn't the same. The Nintendo system we got came with 3 games - Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt (with the gun controller) and a track and field game that worked with the Nintendo trackpad.

http://www.retrojunk.com/img/commercial-thumbs/play-doh3_982-0003.pngI also remember getting quite a bit of Play-Doh sets over the years - I LOVED Play-Doh and back in the late 80s/early 90s there were plenty of sets you could get to make all sorts of crazy Play-Doh creations! I remember one of the sets I had was Burger King set - it came with a Play-Doh "grill" to make burger patties and fries and there were the stamps to create lettuce and tomatoes... I had too much fun with Play-Doh!

I loved coloring books too so every year Santa would bring me some. One year he really confused me though as he brought me a whole stack of new coloring books, however some were duplicates! I didn't understand why Santa would do that and then I started to feel bad, thinking that some little kid out there was some of their coloring books because Santa accidentally gave me multiples! Oops!

http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/strollerderby/image.jpgOne big gift I got in grade school was my American Girl doll Samantha. As I've mentioned before, at one point in school, American Girl dolls were all the rage at school. Us girl were always checking the books out of the library and reading them together in our freetime. Some would bring their dolls to school... at the time there were the original 3 - Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly - and they had just added Felicity. Kirsten was the more popular one at school and me always having to be a little different, I wanted Samantha instead - I loved her Victorian style and stories! My parents got her for me for Christmas one year and I was thrilled!

Another memorable gift was the year I got my stereo in 5th grade. We actually have amusing video footage of this one as my dad (or "Santa" to my sister) played a prank on me with it. I had opened all my gifts and it wasn't there, despite me not having opened a "big" present yet (my parents would get us 1 big, more expensive present that we really wanted each year). As we opened presents in the living room, my parents told me to go retrieve the stockings that hung on the mantle between the kitchen and family room. I didn't really want to, but I did anyway and I think my sis followed. As we went to go get them, we both noticed a big large box wrapped in the middle of the family room. I knew that had to be my big present, but my sis, being the little 3 year old she was at the time, insisted it was hers. My dad, who wrapped it, had forgotten to put a gift tag on it, which only led to the feud as my sister insisted it was her present despite what anyone told her. She then began to fight with me over opening it, getting all upset when my parents told her to let me do it. I unwrapped it and sure enough, it was a box with the stereo I wanted on it. I opened it up though and there was an older junk radio in the box! My dad thought it was funny - turns out he hid the actual stereo somewhere else in the house! lol...

What memorable Christmas gifts have you gotten over the years?

Cataclysm: The First Week

(note: I typed this up yesterday - Wednesday - but was waiting on a photo and completely forgot to post it!)

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_utpn85k5ndo/S6kDD58AjvI/AAAAAAAAAKg/al0aeux5keA/s1600/warcraftwednesdays-logo.gifSo as of yesterday, Cataclysm has been out for a full week now.

Sadly, I don't have a whole lot to report since last week's post, as I've been a bit busy with real life and stuff, and being in my 3rd trimester I've been finding myself a bit more tired than usual as well, plus I've been trying to play at night when hubby is at work as he works a lot and I'd prefer to spend time with him rather than the computer when he is home. If it weren't for all that though, I'm sure I'd easily be level 85 by now as I'm finding leveling/questing to be VERY simple during this expansion - no need for cartographer or Zygor's guides, Blizz has made questing easy-mode now!

I am almost to level 84 though, within 40% of it.

Since my post last week, I finished all the quests in Hyjal and moved on to Deepholm.

http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101015072811/wowwiki/images/thumb/4/4e/Therazane.jpg/180px-Therazane.jpg
Therazane the Stonemother
Deepholm is kind of in a crater. The way to get there was pretty neat though - they have you jump through a portal where Thrall is doing his shaman thing, holding open a whirlpool through the Maelstrom that you ride through to get to Deepholm. Basically the point of Deepholm, like Hyjal, is to gather various "leaders" in the area by doing quests for them however at the end there's an all out battle in the zone's central Temple against an evil sorceress that you have to take down. It was a pretty fun battle and way to end a zone, if you ask me! Don't mess with Therazane, the Stonemother and main leader in Deepholm (whom you meet near the end of questing there). I honestly couldn't tell at first if she was just a really fat dude with man-boobs or a hideously fat looking stone woman - either way, she needs more clothes!

I also did The Stonecore instance which is located in Deepholm. It was okay, nothing special really just an instance with a bit of earth elementals in it and other similar mobs you would expect to see in an instance call Stonecore. Our tank was level 75 so it wasn't too bad, although he seemed to be the only one that had been in the instance prior yet couldn't remember how the fights went so we just kinda went with it and figured it out. Didn't wipe at all though!

Once I finished Deepholm I was about halfway through level 83 and decided to go back and quest in Vashj'ir since I skipped it and did Hyjal instead. The beginning is kind of neat as you're taking a military escort boat from Stormwind to some island off the coast of the Eastern Kingdoms when a giant pussy-monster, er thing with tentacles that looks like the Kracken from the Pirates movies attacks your ship and you all start drowning. I was disappointed to learn that Vashj'ir is pretty much ALL underwater questing as I normally *hate* underwater zones in games. Fortunately though, I'm leveling my Druid right now so I had my aquatic walrus form to use in the beginning before you're granted "sea legs" which gives you increased swim speed as well as underwater breathing. I also did a quest that gave me a fun little seahorse mount that gave me a good laugh as it made me think of the season 4 premiere episode of The Guild where they're all working towards earning items in an Under the Sea in-game themed event.

Harrison Jones
I think I'm going to quest here until I "discover" the entrance to the zone's instance - Throne of Tides - and then go quest in Uldum. Like I said, I'm not fond of water levels in games and while this one isn't too bad, it's not my favorite and I'm pretty much 2-shotting the mobs as everything is level 80-81 and I'm almost 84.

Speaking of Uldum... I was given the quest to go there by one Dr. Harrison Jones! As you may remember from Burning Crusade, Harrison Jones was our guide in the forgotten Zul'Aman raid zone, and then in Wrath we met him again in Grizzly Hills as he was scouring some ruins for artifacts and need our help to escape and fight a giant serpent mob. In Cataclysm, he resides in the Stormwind Keep's library, wearing a nice outfit, and he "teaches" you archeology! How fitting! Reading on WoWiki (where I got the photo on the right), he apparently is also a questgiver in Uldum - can't wait to run into him again!

And here's an updated photo of my gear, at level 83:

I got the staff as an end quest reward (it's a blue) and the robe I've had for a full level now, but since everything seems to have either mastery on it or haste/crit or hit (rarely a combo with all 4 or 2 of the 4 on it) I've been rotating out gear to balance things out as mastery is important, but being a Boomkin (caster druid) I need to keep my haste and crit up as well as my hit. I prefer having a robe though as it makes me look more caster-like! I'm also wearing a combination of cloth and leather gear too as some stats on cloth I've gotten are better than leather pieces I had.

How's your leveling going? Have you hit 85 yet?
Had any interesting/fun/terrible encounters yet?

Appointments, appointments!

Today was a day of doctor's appointments!

I started off the morning early by driving across town to our hospital for my first meeting with the dietitian/nutritionist up on the Maternal Fetal Medicine ward at 830am. By the time they updated all my information it was about 845 when I got to sit down with her and go over my typical daily eating habits, she went over a booklet of information with me regarding gestational diabetes and a handy pamphlet of what foods to eat and such and then we made a basic outline of what times I would be having my meals/snacks and how much carbs I can eat at each, as I am mainly counting my carbs as things high in them tend to be high in sugars as well.

http://www.westerndiabetic.com/assets/images/full/freestyle_lite.PNGThen she gave me a blood sugar glucose monitor kit so I can monitor my levels 4 times a day - my fast level when I first wake up and then an hour after each meal. Basically I prick my finger to get a drop of blood out and then hold it next to this strip that goes in the monitor and it tells me my number or whatever. There's a chart too that tells me what my level should be at different times for fasting and after meals.

Doesn't seem too bad, but man! Even after insurance the strips are still a bit expensive, as she called in a prescription to get me set up with a 30 day supply of the strips and needles and I picked them up already.

At 930am they took me down the hall for an ultrasound, which turned out to be another anatomy scan like the one we had back in October, however this time they were specifically measuring parts of him to check his growth. It appears he has a big head, as that seemed to be measuring a few weeks bigger than he is, and a few other body parts were just slightly ahead of his gestational age when it came to growth. According the ultrasound, based on his measurements it's showing him to be about 31weeks, 4-5 days while his gestational age is actually 30weeks, 1 day old - so he's measuring about a week and a half bigger than he should be. They said he's within 2 weeks though so that's fine and with me monitoring my glucose, if I'm able to work on keeping that down that should help slow down his growth some. The estimated due date the ultrasound was figuring was February 9th, so I guess that means he could be here around then if not closer to his actual due date of February 20th. He also currently weighs just under 4lbs, at 3lbs 14oz.

We did get some decent 3D shots this time around though!

He did shift positions like we thought he did the other night, as his head is now down near my bladder (which explains why I have to pee at least every 2 hours now!) with his face towards my right hip. He's kinda curved around my left side with his back facing us and his feet are curved up towards my belly button.

Face with hand in mouth and foot/leg coming towards face.
Speaking of feet... Jay has discovered them and seemed quite fasciniated by them during our ultrasound today as he spent a good bit of it with one hand in his mouth and his other playing with his feet! lol... at one point we even saw him kick himself in his face! lol... The ultrasound tech also caught him in the act of bumping my left pelvic bone, as I mentioned to her he seems to like hitting that quite a bit despite me finding it a little painful - right after I said that she was like "Oh look! We just caught him in the act of it too!" It was too funny!

He was quite active today but we were able to get him to quit playing with his feet just long enough to get a few quick shots of his face - he didn't like her nudging him with the ultrasound too much though at first, as he gave us a little angry scowl for interrupting playtime with his feet! lol... He has chubby little cheeks like his daddy did when he was a baby though!

"No more pictures, please!"
I had a few hours to kill until my regular check-up at the OB/GYN office so I met up with my mom before visiting hubby as they were in the same vicinity (hubby was at Verizon but in the middle of putting away a shipment when I called and mom was on the other side of the parking lot having coffee with friends at Panera). Unfortunately, looking through Panera's nutrition guide, they had nothing that met my 15carb max allowed for a mid-morning snack (everything was AT LEAST 50g of carbs if not more) so I just had water with a lemon in it. I'm going to have to search online and look up nutrition facts for all the places we regularly go so I know ahead of time what I can eat, etc.

After visiting with both mom and hubby, I swung home for a quick lunch before heading across town for our regular check-up at 145pm (it was originally at 11am but I had them push it back a bit just so I wasn't cutting it too close with my appointments at the hospital this morning). By then the hospital had sent over all my information from this morning and we briefly went over that. They did say Jay is still measuring big but reiterated that if I'm monitoring my glucose now that should help get him to slow down his growth a little bit. They also are starting me on weekly appointments now to monitor his growth and then starting at 34weeks they'll be having me come in twice a week since with the gestational diabetes I'm technically classified as high risk.

Also, the scale at my clinic and the scale in the dietitian/nutritionist's office have about a 10lb difference as the dietitian/nutritionist weighed me being 5lbs less than I was at my check-up at the clinic 2 weeks ago, while the clinic's scale had me 5lbs heavier than I was 2 weeks prior! I didn't think a few hours and lunch would make THAT big of a difference... regardless though, at my clinic they said my weight was fine and everything pregnancy-wise seems to be in the normal range (despite Jay's slightly bigger size right now).

Until next week!
