Phone Photo Fun Monday 07.23.12

This week, Jay had some fun with Grandpa's cane:

 "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!"

Lady Girl sheds, a lot, and my Hoover I've had for like 4 years just wasn't vacuuming up her fur from the carpet so I decided to look around and price a few. It came down to these 2:

I went with the first one - the Bissell Total Floors Pet. It was nearly twice as much as the Dirt Devil Pets (which btw, I LOVE my Dirt Devil handhelds) but the idea of 1 vacuum to use on all our floors was quite appealing!

First time using it on our family room and hallway carpets picked up all this:
Yuck! And I had *just* vacuumed with my Hoover the day before - clearly it wasn't doing its job! You can tell a huge difference just by looking at the carpet too - it looks lighter and just cleaner in general. I used it again last night and it picked up maybe 1/4 of that, doing both the family room, hallway, part of Jay's room and the kitchen, so glad to know the initial first use seemed to get most of the dirt up. It has a 35ft cord too so I don't need to unplug halfway like I had to before - I can get the main floor, only stopping to switch to the bare-floors setting.

Jay found himself a little nook to "read" a book. So glad he loves books!

Hobby Lobby had a 50% off sale on all their wood and metal decorative items so I got this piece for a great price and hubby helped me hang it in our kitchen.

I gave Jay a haircut and I think it actually turned out pretty well this time - mom had asked me if we took him somewhere, she said it looked pretty good! It helped having hubby hold his head and distract him at the same time! He also had an incident with my parents' small dog - she hadn't seen Jay in days and was super excited to play with him, so she jumped up on him, only her paw went higher than usual and one of her nails/claws caught his face, scratching him from the eyebrow down... poor kiddo! Apparently it looks a lot worse than it actually was though - Jay's reflexes had him close his eye so no damage to his eyeball was done and it's been nearly a week and it's mostly cleared up.

I took these 2 for a walk on one of the local walking paths this past week as we had a few days that weren't scorching hot out (I hate July for that reason - most of the month is spent inside in the A/C, it's too hot out to do anything!). Lady Girl did pretty good although Jay was getting fussy near the end of our 1st lap. Funny thing, he was giggling and smiling right up until I snapped this picture, then he became Mr. Grumpyface, lol... He thought it was hilarious to have the dog in the car with us!

Jay has this thing where he picks up objects and puts them to his ear like he's talking on the phone. Lately he's been stealing my computer's mouse and doing this. Funny thing is, we have no idea where he picked this up, as we don't usually use the phone for making phone calls often when he's awake!

Standing on his tiptoes, trying to reach either a book or a DVD, lol...

Some good ol' pampering

Today I made some progress on item #88 on my 101 in 1001 list - get a pedicure 3 times a year.

I figured one a season would be good, although coming into my last month of pregnancy, when a friend had an open-invite on Facebook to join her at a nail salon, I jumped at the chance to get a pedicure, as my poor, swollen feet could really use one!

Hubby rubs my feet for me sometimes when we watch TV and clips my toenails for me when they get too long as I have trouble comfortably reach my feet, but it's just not the same as going to a nail salon and soaking them and getting the works done and all that... and it felt GREAT!

Also, supposedly, there's a pressure point on your ankle that's linked somehow to your uterus and if rubbed or whatever (like they do during pedicure massages) it can cause you to have contractions - I guess we'll see if I go into labor in the next few days... I'll be 37 weeks on Sunday and that's considered full-term so if I go into labor at this point, it's really no big deal.

What was amusing was that the chairs for the pedicure have a built in massager - I don't think Jay knew what to make of that, with all the vibrations going on! He started kicking/squirming a good bit while it was going on! lol...

At Home Foot Pampering

Why go and spend money at day spa for a facial, manicure and pedicure when you can do it at home for less?

Not too long ago I was cleaning out the basket that sits in our nightstand and came across a few bottles of trial-size stuff my dad had put in my Christmas stocking over the last few years. At first, I wrote one thing off as just being lotion, but when I looked closer I saw it was a thermal pedicure lotion. It says to moisten your feet, rub all over and focus on dry, rough areas, then rinse. It sounded interesting and have a few really rough spots on my heels so I pulled it out and figured I'd try it someday.

Well this weekend I'm going up to Madison with my unit for a Mary Kay Career Conference (my first company-wide event - I'm excited!). I decided, what better time to treat myself to a mini-pedicure than the night before I leave? I'm going to be staying with 5 or 6 other girls in a hotel suite so why not make sure my feet look cute since we're sort of having a slumber party our first night!

Now to be honest, I *hate* feet. I think feet are disgusting and ugly. I would say I have whatever the opposite of a foot fetish is, that's how much I don't like feet! I can't touch another person's foot or have their feet on me or my stuff - drives me nuts and grosses me out. I can however touch my feet though - for some reason my own feet don't bother me, but other people's... yuck! Please keep them to yourself, thanks! I can't understand people who have foot fetishes - grosses me out to try and even think about it or comprehend it! I actually knew a guy in college, when I lived in the dorms, who admitted to having a foot fetish. Thank God he didn't live on my floor, as from that point on, me and my best friend made sure our feet were covered when we were hanging around him, lol...

Anyways, in the picture here, you can see what I used for my At Home Pedicure:
  • Foot filing board
  • Toe nail clippers
  • Nail file
  • Cuticle Trimmer (I'm obsessed with trimming my cuticles and the surrounding skin)
  • Sapphire File
  • Olay Body Thermal Pedicure
  • Equate Skin Therapy Lotion
  • Pure Ice nail polish in metallic light blue ("Pussy Cat")

I really suggest trying the Olay stuff - my feet are feeling pretty good and the rough spots seem like some of it actually did come off this time too!

And you can use whatever nail polish you like of course - Pure Ice is a brand I've tried before and liked so I decided to try this color.

In Jr. High and High School I had *a bunch* of different nail polish colors - pinks, reds, blues, dark green, lime green, orange, black... crazy colors! I remember getting a lot of use out of the lime green one too!  Nowadays, I don't really paint my nails that often - I'll paint my toenails during the spring/summer months, since I'm usually wearing sandals then, but I rarely paint my fingernails unless I get in a mood to do so. I have a limited selection of colors.

Currently, I have a French manicure polish set, a dark blue by Jane, a couple bottles of black nail polish (I wore it a lot in high school and part of college), a metallic dark/neutral pink Petites nail polish, a simple bottle of red NYC nail polish, and now 2 bottles of Pure Ice - a metallic silver and a metallic light blue (called "Pussy Cat"). I tend to go for more metallic colors I've noticed, I think they look best, as they're not just a straight bland color.

I also tend to buy the same brands - NYC, Petites, and Pure Ice because you can get them all at Walmart for pretty cheap and they seem to last just as long as the expensive stuff you can get a beauty salon (I remember spending over $5 on OPI stuff back in Jr. High at Ulta). NYC is about $1, Petites is $1.50 and Pure Ice is $2 - those sound like decent prices on polish to me!

I think I'm going to do a little more pampering on myself tonight, using the Mary Kay Microdermabrasion set, but I thought I'd share about this fun, simple way to pamper your feet at home.
