20 Things Every Woman Should Do Before She Gets Married

20 Things Every Woman Should Do Before She Gets MarriedI came across this article awhile back and I happen to think a lot of it is good advice. Since Valentine's Day is just 2 days away and a lot of women, whether single or in a relationship, tend to go into that lovey-dovey mode this time of the year I thought I'd share it.

Ladies, before you decide to tie the knot, make sure you haven't missed out on some important life experiences every woman should experience.
  1. Live by herself for at least a year.
  2. Live with someone else for at least a year.
  3. Recover from a broken heart.
  4. Have a vacation fling.
(this don't mean you have to sleep with them, but a little summer romance/crush never hurt anyone!)
  5. Take a road-trip with a group of girlfriends.
  6. Relish sleeping in a queen-sized bed by herself.
  7. Get her finances in order.
  8. Learn to love her body.
  9. Have sex with at least one person she’d never want to marry (or introduce to mom).
(Now I don't think you necessarily need to have sex with someone, but as the quote by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings goes, “A woman has got to love a bad man once or twice in her life, to be thankful for a good one” which I fully agree with and believe this statement goes more along the lines of that quote.
  10. Find reliable birth control.
  11. Pay off as much credit card debt and student loans as possible.
(Once you get married, your debt becomes theirs and vice versa!)
  12. Spend way too much on a something frivolous.
  13. Exorcise all past relationship demons.
  14. Travel somewhere exotic.
  15. Establish a strong circle of friends.
  16. Forgive her parents for not being perfect.
  17. Have at least one night she can’t quite remember.
  18. Experience some really bad first dates.
  19. Find hobbies that fulfill her.
  20. Celebrate her 25th birthday.

  1. I feel like too many women miss out on things because they rush into marriage. I'm willing to wait until my 30's or maybe even never. I want to know I can make it in this life by myself before I bring someone else into it.

I don't agree with the "sleeping with" things either, I am a waiting-until-marriage kind of person.

  2. Yeah, I don't necessarily think you need to sleep with someone you'd never marry or bring home to mom, but I think I get what it's saying in that you should date someone you normally wouldn't.

I experienced this - I dated a guy in college who my parents were not fond of AT ALL. They tolerated him because of me - they were afraid if they told me to stop seeing him I'd rebel and quit talking to them. Fortunately, I eventually understood where they were coming from and why my dad seemed horrified anytime I mentioned marrying this guy, as looking back now, there's no way I would want to marry him!

I agree also that too many women seem to rush into marriage and miss out on so many life experiences. While it's great to find that one person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you shouldn't deny yourself from experiencing certain things in life and with your girlfriends.
