Update on Cardiology visit
Jay did pretty good - in the waiting room they had some toys for him to play with while I filled out the stack of paperwork. Some other families with kids came in shortly after we did - one little girl, who I would guess to be maybe 6 months or so older than Jay, came near him to play with the box of giant Legos. Jay saw it and went over... poor girl! Every time she pulled a giant Lego brick out, Jay would take it from her! Ooops! Seems someone needs to learn how to share! At one point she got frustrated and started pulling back when he tried to take one off her - I'm surprised they didn't have a little brawl! LOL... They had toys in the exam room too so Jay played with those while we waited for the doctor to come in, but he got bored quickly and started opening and closing the cabinet drawers under the exam table.
The doc came, listened to his heartbeat and confirmed that there was a small murmur there - he said on a scale of 1-6, with 6 being very loud and 1 being quiet, that he would rate Jay's as a 2. He said that had Jay been fussing or crying during his check-up, odds are his doctor would have never heard it. He explained that there's 2 sides to heart murmurs in babies - 1 could just be innocent and benign, as like I said before, it can be caused by their hearts just pumping so fast to keep up with their rapidly growing little bodies and usually they grow out of it as they grow up. The other side of the coin... it could be something serious, such as a deformity or defect such as a hole in his heart (for example), but he said not to worry about that.
He had them do an ultrasound-like scan on his heart, which Jay did well for the most part, despite getting antsy towards the end.
The doctor gave me a brochure on innocent heart murmurs (which he had to go find as the exam room we were in was out of them - he joked at that meaning that it was quite common!) and told me to wait to read it until Friday, as we'll know by then if Jay's is serious or not. He said to consider no news as good news and that if I don't hear anything by Friday to go ahead and read the brochure and I'm guessing we'll just keep a check on it during his regular check-ups.
Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers! I really do appreciate it - now to just keep our fingers crossed we don't hear anything bad!

The Fabulous Holiday Blog Challenge: Day 2

This is one hubby and I started a few years ago - seeing how many times we can watch 24 Hours of "A Christmas Story" on TBS.
It starts on Christmas Eve (I want to say around 7pm CST) and replays every 2 hours for 24 hours straight (that's a total of 12 showings!).
Hubby and I both LOVE this movie - it's probably our favorite full-length Christmas movie (the original Grinch is probably my favorite holiday short). We usually catch it twice before falling asleep, once in the morning and then at least once (sometimes twice) while visiting with my in-laws as my Father-in-Law hates watching it more than once and if he notices it's on the second airing we've watched there he'll flip, lol...We can't wait to show it to Jay (hubby's already started quoting lines to him, such as "I can't put my arms down!" whenever we bundle him up, lol...) and has mentioned several times we need to get him a pink bunny suit like the one Ralphie's aunt sends him and his mom makes him try on, lol... It'll be a few years before Jay "gets" it but oh well - start 'em young!
Just a quick request...
If I could just ask a quick favor from you guys today - please keep Jay in your thoughts and prayers as this afternoon (2pm CST) we'll be seeing a pediatric cardiologist to check out the possible heart murmur his pediatrician thought he heard at his 9 month check-up earlier this month.
He said it's probably nothing or just benign and said it's not uncommon for babies to have a heart murmur when they're little as they grow so rapidly that sometimes the heart has trouble keeping up, but still... The thought of Jay maybe having even more major medical issues... I don't know if I can take it.
I've already accepted the fact that it's a 99% guarentee that he'll have to have the surgery for his ureter tube to open up (in case your new, Jay was born with a deformed left ureter tube that was pinched shut, allowing nothing to go in from or out to his bladder causing his left kidney to be enlarged with excess fluid trapped up in there - the way to fix it is surgery around his 2nd birthday, where they will remove the ureter tube from his bladder, cut off the tapered off, pinched shut part and then reinsert the tube to his bladder so that both kidneys can function correctly and not just 1).
But yeah... I just can't bear to think about the possibility that something else might be majorly wrong, such as a major heart issue that will need surgery or some type of procedure to fix it!
So PLEASE keep us in your thoughts and prayers today as they do some minor testing to figure out if there is a murmur and if it's something serious or not!
Thanks!
I met Dave Navarro!
Tonight I had a customer whose card was not signed on the back so I requested to see his ID.
I went to match the name on the card with that on the ID...
and hey, whadya know, his name is Dave Navarro!
I smiled but no, I didn't ask or make some crack about the guy being the famous rockstar - I'm sure he gets that PLENTY!
And obviously he wasn't THE Dave Navarro - aside from dark hair and a white complexion, he looked nothing like him.
Still, I thought it was interesting enough to share! Have you ever met someone who shares a name with someone famous? We had a few come through the movie theater when I worked there as well (I remember there once being a Will Smith!).
