Is the Zombie Apocalypse upon us?

Remember last November when I asked what you would do if the Zombie Apocalypse actually happened?

Well, after the events of last weekend, you might want to start coming up with a plan if you haven't already!

Funny Cry for Help Ecard: I'm not saying its the start of the Zombie Apocalypse, but when a dude bites off another dude's face and doesn't react to being shot... perhaps we should consider it.I'm sure by now, you've heard about the "Miami Zombie attack" where a naked man (whom they're saying was believed to be under the influence of drugs similar to LSD called "Bath Salts") attacked a homeless man in broad daylight and was feasting - literally eating! - his face for a good 18 minutes before police were alerted and arrived on the scene. They told the crazed man to stop and he didn't and ended up shooting him 12 times before he finally died.

The victim is in critical condition at a nearby hospital and there's talk that if and when he wakes up, he might not recognize his own face, as his nose, eyes and ears among the flesh on the top portion of his face and head were chewed up - his chin and gotee are the only parts that reportedly remained untouched!

That's crazy stuff!

A witness who gave his account to a local news reporter in Miami described the man as insane and zombie-like, saying the closest thing he could think to describe it was like something right out of AMC's The Walking Dead!

That's just freaky!

I'm hoping the victim makes it out of his critical state okay and I really do hope this is an isolated incident - otherwise, you better be prepared! Wouldn't hurt to have a good weapon, some non-perishable canned goods and some bottled water on-hand, just in case! Or at the very least, brush up on some zombie apocalypse survival tactics by playing some zombie shooter games, reading some Max Brooks (like his Zombie Survival Guide or World War Z) or studying zombie shows like The Walking Dead or any of the George A. Romero "...of the Dead" movies.

If there were a Zombie Apocalypse...

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/187801_191774127520918_5798311_n.jpgOne of my current favorite shows is AMC's The Walking Dead and of the most interesting books I've read in awhile is World War Z  by Max Brooks (which is told in a series of interviews by survivors of how the zombie apocalypse started, how we fought back and the aftermath - it's being turned into a movie starring Brad Pitt).

Anyways, I was thinking the other day... what would we do if there was a zombie apocalypse?

Probably stock up on non-perishables and bottled water, get a gun or some other items to use as weapons and hole up in our attic, which is above Jay's room and you need a ladder to climb up into, until the threat was over.

See, after we climb up there, we can knock the ladder down and close up the door - zombie's aren't smart enough to use a ladder so they wouldn't be able to reach us. If we needed to get down, it's not far jump and we could just get back up via the ladder and knock it back down before closing up the door.

With all the movies and books out there about zombies and living in a post- zombie apocalypse world... I honestly don't see how people could not be prepared. Not to mention how many zombie shoot-em games are there now too? Killing zombies in a video game isn't just entertainment - consider it also survival training!

I mean, we all know that to kill a zombie you have to shoot them in the head or bash in their skull real good (as gory as that sounds, but hey - it's survival!). And we all know not to let them bite you. The problem with all the books and movies is that the survivors aren't prepared or aware of what to do around zombies - they live in a universe without all the zombie movies and books, etc unlike us in the real world. Knowing what we already know, there's not really any excuse for why we as a society wouldn't already be prepared.

What about you?
Have you thought about what you would do if a zombie apocalypse ever happened?

The Walking Dead

Hubby and I have found a new show to watch on Sunday nights - "The Walking Dead" on AMC.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e6/The_Walking_Dead_2010_Intertitle.png/250px-The_Walking_Dead_2010_Intertitle.pngWe first heard about it several weeks ago while watching the Scream Awards on SpikeTV as it's based on a comic book of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. They showed a clip of the show and it seemed okay.

Since summer is over and there's no True Blood and Entourage airing til next summer and VH1's Sunday night lineup hasn't had much worth watching for nearly a year now, we figured we'd check this one out.

The first episode premiered on Halloween and was 90 minutes long, setting up the series. Smalltown Georgia officer Rick we learn is having trouble with his marriage and also has a young son. While responding to a call, a shootout with criminals occurs and Rick is shot and rushed to the hospital. While he is in and out of a coma, his partner stops by regularly to visit him, but then that suddenly stops and Rick comes to, stumbling around the now empty hospital, wondering where everyone is.

He wanders outside and to his house, looking for his wife and kid, when he comes across a man and his son who almost mistake him for Dead. They take him to safety and being to explain to him what has happened the past few weeks - The Dead have come back to life, feasting on the living. Eventually they part ways and Rick continues to search for his wife and kid, leading him to Atlanta which he learns was a mistake.

We are also introduced to a caravan of survivors who have a camp set up not too far from the city and by episode 2 Rick comes into contact with some of them.

It's basically an ongoing zombie movie, as the characters get themselves into jams where it seems they have no way out and have to work together to survive and get away from the zombies.

It's also amusing that so far, just in the first 2 episodes they've worked in elements from zombie movies such as 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead, as in the first episode, Rick wakes up in an empty hospital and has no clue what has occurred much like Cillian Murphy's character does at the beginning of 28 Days Later, and then in episode 2, much of the episode takes place inside a department store similar to the movie Dawn of the Dead where much of it takes place inside a shopping mall.

I am a bit surprised though at how much they seem to get away with for being on basic cable. Both episodes so far have a few "gross out" gory moments that seem more like something you'd expect to see on HBO or Showtime, and then last night we saw several middle fingers being thrown as well as the "n-word."

If you like zombie movies and a clever storyline, but sure to check out The Walking Dead which airs Sunday nights at 10/9c (with several encores throughout the night) on AMC.
