A friend posted this on Facebook and I must have missed it when Jill (@thenerdybird) linked her article earlier, but here's one for Game of Thrones fans - kitty (named Arya, btw!) meows the theme song! LOL... like Jill says in her post, it's kinda reminescient of those crazy Jingle Cats (and dogs!) that "sing" Christmas tunes.
Check it out! It had me cracking up!

I know this is crazy... so share it, maybe?
I'm sure by now you've probably heard or seen a lot of the "Call Me, Maybe" parodies that have been floating around online. To be honest, I had heard of the stupid song, but hadn't heard it in its entirety until it recently got added to our store soundtrack at work.
Anyway, hubby saw a Twitter friend post this one last week and it had us cracking up. And it piqued Jay's interest when he heard and then saw Cookie Monster in it! Since then he's made me play it several times in a row whenever we do watch it!
It's pretty darn cute! I LOVE Sesame Street song parodies (like the recent LMFAO parody "I'm Elmo and I Know It!")

"Hurt" - NIN or Cash, who did it better?
Last night hubby and I were watching TV and a commercial for some new console game (Prototype 2...?) came on TV and the song used in the background was Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nail's "Hurt." I'm more partial to NiN's original version, hubby likes Cash's better. Hubby took it to Facebook, which the majority (so far) is in favor of Cash's cover.
I'll admit, both version are good and very moving, however I see NiN's version as more being about the present pain Trent Reznor was in when he wrote it back in 1994, whereas Cash's is clearly a reflection on the life he lived. Cash's seems more hopeful, whereas as the minor chords in NiNs are more creepy and makes the song feel dark and sad. I think having seen/heard Trent Reznor perform it live as the last song NiN ever played in Chicago also sways my vote a tad too - I was there, I felt the emotion that he put into it and what a personal song it is to him.
What do you think? Which version do you prefer?
(forgive the NIN video - the only "official" videos they have of the original are live versions - this was the only clear audio quality one I could find, straight from The Downward Spiral album)

Kids clothing with their name on it
File this under things I just understand:
Buying your young child custom clothing with their name on it.
Since having Jay and following more mommy bloggers I've noticed a lot of them show pictures of their youngins in clothing with their names custom embroidered on it.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I just don't understand... why?
I'll admit, I've thought about getting Jay some custom made shirts with his name on it (and with his name, unless we go with his nickname of Jay, we kind of have to custom make it as his actual name is so unique). But then two reasons not to pop into my head.
1 - did you NOT see this kids After School/Saturday Morning PSA in the late 80s and early 90s when you were a kid??
For those that didn't watch the blast from the past PSA, it basically warns you of the dangers of wearing clothing with your name on it - the big concern being that strangers can act like they know you, potentially claiming your parent told them to come get you and escort you home. Granted, in this day and age, not many parents are letting their kids roam the neighborhood or go to the playground alone as things have changed so much in the last 20 years, and obviously you're not going to leave your baby alone but still... the PSA and it's message still lurks in the back of my mind.
And 2 - you can't "hand me down" the item and reuse it for future kids, which seems like a waste to me. We're planning on having at least 1 more child, if not 2, at some point down the road so you can bet that as Jay outgrows his clothes I box them up and put them in our storage room so our future babies can wear them. Sure, he's a boy, but some of the stuff can work for both genders if we do have a girl and obviously another little boy can wear them as well. Once all our kids have outgrown them then I'll either pass the non-keepsake ones onto a relative or just donate them. Who knows - maybe some of the keepsake ones they'll pass onto their own kids. But you can't do that with clothes that have 1 child's name on it. And that just seems like a waste of money to me.
Just my 2 cents though and something to keep in mind while you consider getting that super cute personalized onesie or t-shirt!

Go the F- to Sleep... now in song!
Awhile back, I'm sure you heard there was a new audiobook available, read by Samuel L. Jackson titled "Go the F*** to Sleep!" It's in bedtime book rhyme and tells the tale of a parent frustrated and about to lose it as their child just won't go to bed, coming up with various excuses and stalling...
Not gonna lie, it's pretty funny!
And I did use a free audiobook coupon just to hear it on Audible.com when it first came out.
A friend of mine posted on my Facebook the other day this YouTube video - someone put the audiobook to song! And it's just as good! And free!
Warning - it's NSFW, so you might want to use headphones!
Enjoy!

I'm Elmo and I Know It!
So this one is a few weeks old, but it's still quite funny and I keep getting it stuck in my head!
Apparently a fan made a Sesame Street parody of LMFAO's "I'm Sexy and I Know It" and turned it into "I'm Elmo and I Know It." Sesame Street Workshop picked up on it and approves and well, it's a hit, and hilarious too I might add!

Home for the Holidays
A friend on Facebook just posted this tonight.
Granted, we're Verizon users (although my only complaint re: my time with T-Mobile was their lack of coverage outside major cities), but this is a really neat flash mob that was recently done at the big mall in the Chicago suburbs that we visit several times a year (Woodfield, in Schaumburg, which is like an hour away), so it was neat seeing this done there!
Enjoy!

"G" (a Sesame Street parody of Glee)!
The 42nd season of Sesame Street premiered this Tuesday, and Jay LOVES Sesame Street (and pretty much any show with puppets) and especially Elmo and Grover.
During Thursday's episode they did a Glee parody - called "G" with the focus on the letter G and words that start with G - and since I'm on a Glee kick since watching this week's episode (OMG! I can't wait to see what happens next - who gets what part in the musical and how Quinn thinks she'll get full custody of Beth despite being a trainwreck now...) I thought it was pretty amusing! Sad that Tina, Puck and Santana aren't in it though, but it's still pretty funny!

Baby Mozart
Since I've been getting more and more hours/shifts at work lately, Jay's been spending quite a bit of time over at my mom's house lately.
I sat down on one of my breaks last week and got a text from her - my sister sat Jay down with her at their piano, he watched her play for a few minutes and decided to try it himself!
Check out my little Baby Mozart, playing away at the piano!
