Some suggestions on ways to avoid getting breast cancer

My aunt in the Carolina's just sent me this in an email and I thought it seemed important to share with you women.

Cancer Update from John S. Hopkins

Bottled water in your car is very dangerous!

On the Ellen show, Sheryl Crow said this is what caused her breast cancer. It has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels of dioxin in breast cancer tissue.

Sheryl Crow's oncologist told her:
women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car. The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue. So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

Pass this on to all the women in your life. This information is the kind we need to know that just might save us! Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle instead of plastic!

This information is also being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center:
No plastic containers in microwave.
No water bottles in freezer
No plastic wrap in microwave..

A dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers... This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat,and plastic releases dioxin to the food and ultimately into the cells of the body... Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food... You get the same results, only without the dioxin.

So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran wrap, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in Your Life! LET EVERYONE WHO HAS A WIFE / GIRLFRIEND / DAUGHTER KNOW PLEASE!

Crazy Dream: Giant Flimsy Contacts and the Parallel Universe

This dream was too crazy to pass up! Jeny's been posting on Livejournal a lot of her crazy dreams she's had while she was taking headache meds and this one seemed about on par with hers.

So it started off, I'm hanging out with Erika and her husband at their new house (even though it looks nothing like their new house!). They're showing me the master bedroom and I have to take my contacts out - they're really starting to bother me, so I'm standing by the dresser, taking them out and putting them in the case, only they're like ginormous and super flimsy - no way those things will even fit in my eyes! For some reason I stick one in my mouth to get it wet, only it got all folded up and I start choking on it, as it's caught in my windpipe. I start freaking out cuz I'm choking, but Erika and her husband went into the bathroom and started getting busy. Josh comes out of nowhere and gives me the Heimlich maneuver and the giant contact lense comes flying out.

So somehow, me, Jeny and Jackie got sent into a parallel universe (think Sliders) where everything is like we're back in high school, but it's in a rundown western town and all the adult women are wearing old western dresses with bonnets. No one believes us and thinks we're weird for wearing jeans and 'normal' clothes. The only way to get back to our universe is through key that is this book/postcard (kinda like a portkey in Harry Potter) that's kept on a rack in the local general store, however a crazy old lady in the dress and bonnet owns the store and keeps thinking we're trying to steal it and won't let us have it, even though we offer to pay!

There's a full moon coming up and Jeny's convinced that if we go to the end of town and jump at the moon when it's fullest we can escape this parallel universe without having the key. Jackie and I didn't think it would work, but Jeny did it anyway and appears at her apt in DeKalb, only it's completely dark, she has no roommate and all her belongings are missing. Turns out, that by not using the key, she screwed up her future and is now in a different parallel universe (kinda like in Sliders where they thought they were home but they weren't).

Jackie and I are still stuck trying to get access to the key to get home correctly. Because time has set back to where we're in high school again, Jackie is stuck dealing with her ex who won't leave her alone while she greatly misses Cody. Josh is constantly following me around, but at a distance like he did the first few years we knew each other and he keeps giving me these "I love you" eyes. I finally tell him that I'm from the future trapped in a parallel universe and that in my universe, 9 years from now we get married. He's like the only one that believes us and is intrigued about the parallel universe story as he's all into sci-fi.

There's also a young boy who believes me and Jackie and tries to help us. At one point it seems like Jackie gave up and wanted to just live it out and let things run their course, believing that in 9 years things will be back to how they were. The boy ends up going out his way to distract the crazy old lady at the shop so we can get the key. Before we can use it though, she starts chasing around the shop and then the western town... she chases us to the edge of town (in a horse drawn buggy!), while the moon is still full and we accidentally jump.

Did we make it to the right universe since we had the key with us or did we get sent into another alternate one like Jeny did?

I don't know, Josh woke me up by yelling at the cat, lol...

FinallyFast.com

This commercial plays on tv all the time and is a service that is supposed to make your computer run faster.

Whether or not it's a scam, who knows... but what I want to know is...

If it says it's strictly for MS Windows and PC, then why in the commercial are 2 out of the 3 computers shown clearly macs??? One's a white iBook, another is an iMac - the black computer is the only one that's actually a PC!

This completely baffles me - if you're making a commercial for Windows/PC clean up software you would think the computers used in your commercial would be a PC!

Cute joke for Lent

One of my bosses received this joke in his email the other day and I thought it was funny and cute enough to post! Sure it might not be quite accurate, but it's still funny!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A man down south loved to cook Venison on his grill, however the community he lived in was mostly Catholic and during Lent the smell of the deer meat on the grill drove them crazy as they couldn't eat it.
One day, several of them went to the man and explained it to him and convinced him to convert to Catholicism since most of the community was. The Priest cast holy water on the man, proclaiming "You were born a Baptist, you were raised as a Baptist, but now you are Catholic!"
The next weekend, the people in the community began to smell the deer meat on the grill again and promptly called the priest to go talk to the man. The priest quickly hurried over to the man's house, prepared to explain to him again how Lent works.
When he arrived however, he saw the man, standing over his grill with holy water, sprinkling the deer meat, saying "You were born a deer, you were raised as a deer, but now you are a catfish!"
Mental Fung Shui
My aunt in the Carolinas forwarded this to me and I thought it was pretty good advice - some fun little reminders for life!
  • 1) Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
  • 2) Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.
  • 3) Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
  • 4) When you say, 'I love you,' mean it.
  • 5) When you say, 'I'm sorry,' look the person in the eye.
  • 6) Be engaged at least six months before you get married.
  • 7) Believe in love at first sight.
  • 8) Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.
  • 9) Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.
  • 10) In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.
  • 11) Don't judge people by their relatives.
  • 12) Talk slowly but think quickly.
  • 13) When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, 'Why do you want to know?'
  • 14) Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
  • 15) Say 'bless you' when you hear someone sneeze.
  • 16) When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
  • 17) Remember the three R's:
  • Respect for self;
  • Respect for others;
  • and Responsibility for all your actions.
  • 18) Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
  • 19) When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
  • 20) Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
  • 21) Spend some time alone.
NIU: 1 Year after the tragedy
February 14, 2008 and Forward Together Forward are phrases that will probably always come to our mind when thinking about my alum mater, NIU.
I remember when I first heard the news.
I was in Rockford and had just stopped by my parents house after having met with Sarah's mom who was making our wedding cake. A friend of my mom's called the house, asking where I was and told my mom to turn on the local news. And there it was - footage of campus, less than a mile away from my apartment and talk of a shooting had occurred. At the time, they weren't exactly sure which building it occurred in. I thought for sure it was DuSable, as they were filming near that part of campus and almost everyone has a class there at some point in their NIU career as most of the gen-ed classes are taught in that building.
I immediately got in my car and took off back to my apartment down in DeKalb and grabbed my phone and started calling those I knew who may have been in class to make sure they were alright. I also called Jeff to let him know if he need a ride to work I could come pick him up so he could avoid having to take the bus and change routes on campus. Those I couldn't reach I left messages and texts.
Josh was still asleep when I got back. They hadn't announced the names of the victims yet - I was worried about whether or not any of them had been kids I worked with at the theater. When we went out for Valentine's Day later that night, we stopped by the theater and I asked if we had heard if any of our kids were involved, but there was no news yet.
Although I had just graduated 2 months prior, I still lived and worked in DeKalb. I went to the vigil that night, as a recent alumni. What bothered me most was the "what if" it had it happened the previous semester? Just 2 months before did I regularly cut through Cole Hall to get to one of my classes twice a week. We've all had classes there - I had my only math class and my intro to journalism class in that room. I went to a church service one Sunday in that room. I had journalism design classes in the lab underneath that room.
My parents said they were playing interviews of students on Fox News that night - I caught part of Desiree's. We were never really that close, however we worked at the Northern Star together for a few semesters. I was one of the top page designers on staff at the time, and she started out writing (I want to say for Weekender, which I did a lot of the design work for) and was eventually one of the section editors who stuck around a little bit in the evenings. I sometimes worked with her to get content to put on her sections pages. I know she's talked about it a lot since and shared her story, but I still can't even begin to imagine the ordeal she went though, being caught inside the room there. My heart really goes out to her and all the others that had to go through that. I still get a little choked up just thinking about it, and reading what others have written about it - I'm getting more emotional in my old age!
I really feel that I can say I'm a little closer to people I knew from NIU than I was about a year ago, as this tragedy really brought us all together. I've reconnected with some and gotten to know casual acquaintances better. True, it's a little harder to keep in touch with some since I moved back to Rockford, but that's what social networking sites are for, right?
